Man tries Mary Poppins’ umbrella stunt
A video has been posted online of a man trying to float down to earth from a hot air balloon – Mary Poppins-style – clutching a patio umbrella.
Erik Roner, professional skier and BASE jumper, recorded his jump, over southern California, on his “Roner Vision” YouTube series.
He is shown soaring through clear skies until he is hundreds of feet above the ground when he jumps out of the basket, clutching his umbrella.
It does appear to slow his descent – albeit without the serene grace of Julie Andrews in the classic 1964 film – until the umbrella cloth gives way.
Fortunately, Mr Roner anticipated this turn of events and opened his back-up parachute to float safely back down the earth.
