New beer aims to stir up games sponsors
A Scottish brewery has unveiled a new beer called Never Mind the Anabolics containing eight illegal performance enhancing ingredients.
BrewDog says its limited edition ale is designed to “undermine global sponsorship” for the London Olympics.
It contains creatine, guarana, lycii berries, kola nut, Gingko, matcha tea, maca powder and steroids – all banned for professional athletes.
The stunt follows controversy over restrictive sponsorship deals involving major players such as McDonalds and Coca-Cola.
James Watt, cofounder of BrewDog said: “It seems a beer laced with performance enhancing ingredients isn’t actually illegal, but it is definitely frowned upon.
“Never Mind the Anabolics is a thorn in the side of the biggest corporate beast spawned this century.
“This is the craft beer community showing the sponsors of the games the finger in the best way we know how.”
A percentage of the proceeds of the craft beer is going towards a new surfboard for a surfing dog called Abbie.
