Cowra was a prisoner of war camp during World War II in the town of Cowra in the South of Wales, Australia. This was the site of one of the largest prisoner break-outs on August 5, 1944, with 545 Japanese POWs involved. The prisoners at Cowra also included 2,000 Italians, Koreans who had served in the Japanese military, and Indonesian civilians detained at the request of the Dutch East Indies government
